SAD NEWS FOR OUR SWANS

Sadly, this year the swans who regularly nest on the river bank were disturbed during the nesting period due to people playing in the river over the Easter weekend. This led the distressed pen to abandon her nest and the seven eggs she was incubating. She and the cob did return the next day but she soon left again and has not been seen in the area since. The cob has been back and forth, even sitting on the eggs himself. Unfortunately, this has means that the eggs will not hatch and we will not see any cygnets this year along our stretch of the river. Last year the pair were disturbed in similar circumstances within a couple of days of the cygnets being born and so they moved further along the river into Bulford. Please be mindful of the potential impact of your actions. The Town Council will be installing some signs for next year highlighting the nesting season and the need to respect the wildlife.
