Community event set for 10th Anniversary celebrations!

The village of Durrington is getting excited for its tenth annual Sunday Funday. Originally set up to as a charity event to raise funds for the village hall preschool the event has developed into a hugely popular community event, last year after having to cancel the original event due to the rubbish weather it still attracted more than 2000 visitors . This years event will be raising money for the Radnor Ward at Salisbury hospital, Wiltshire Air Ambulance and other local groups.

Co-founders Dion and Emma Spencer said: “It’s mainly aimed at the kids, so there’s stuff going on all afternoon, keeping them entertained and bringing the community together whilst making a few pennies for local charities. We are very proud to say we have raised more than £15,000 over the past nine years which we’ve be able to donate to small local charities, groups and individuals in need.”

There will be fun and games all day, with Disco Dion leading the celebrations announcing events and performers. Attractions include stalls, car boot, face painting, bouncy castles, prize raffle as well as food stalls and a bar - all mixed in with fun and games on the main arena.

As well as the Funday, the organisers added Retro in the Rec, a music event on the village recreational ground the evening before.

Dion and Emma added:

“We already deliver a great event for the youngsters, but felt the grownups needed a treat too. In its four year history the evening Retro event has grown and grown, it’s fabulous to see everyone singing and dancing along to live music and a disco – a perfect end to the summer break. The joint event is now quite a beast to organise and we couldn’t do it without the support of local businesses and top team of volunteers who help us set up and of course clear up after the events.”

Retro in the Rec takes place on the evening of Saturday 24th August 2019 from 5.30pm – 10.30pm, followed by Sunday Funday on 25th August 2019 from 12 midday – 4pm. All visitors need is a picnic blanket, the enthusiasm to join in and a few pounds for some of the activities – all of which helps raise vital funds for local charities.
